This blog focuses on the career-boosting benefits of Spandan and how it can unlock your dream career in the media industry.
Spandan is the annual media fest organised by the students of VSJMC, the Journalism and Mass Communication department of VIPS - TC, Delhi, as part of their 5th-semester curriculum. Spandan is all about celebrating both the cultural and academic heritage, and the dedicated efforts of the students and coordinators make the event nothing less than a grand one each year. With unique themes shedding light on forgotten issues, the innovatively conceptualised media festival sets itself apart from general cultural festivals. Spandan has garnered widespread media coverage and popularity amongst various colleges and universities across India. The indomitable spirit of students has acted as fuel in the successful execution of Spandan for the past many years. Spandan provides a great opportunity for students to explore nuances of event management as well as understand the importance of working in a team, working on time, and working with coherence.

Spandan: A Festival of Opportunities
Spandan is a perfect example of how important it is for students to get involved on campus and take advantage of the many opportunities available. It provides numerous benefits for students and their careers. Some of the benefits include:
Networking opportunities: Spandan invites many media professionals, veterans, and experts as judges, panellists, speakers, and resource persons. It is an opportunity for students to meet and connect with them, which can help them establish meaningful connections and potentially land job opportunities. Students can also meet other people who share similar interests and goals.
Hands-on experience: Many events and competitions at Spandan allow students to create and showcase their media projects, which can be a valuable addition to their portfolios. For example, Cinephile, the film festival, welcomes short films from students to be screened during the event in front of a large audience.
Skill development: Participating in Spandan and joining various departments can help students develop and improve their skills in areas like content writing, photography, video production, etc. For example, the Marketing and Sponsorship department gives students a fair idea of the concepts.
Exposure: Spandan gives students visibility and exposure in front of media professionals. This can help them gain recognition. For example, Vritaant, an anchor-hunt competition in 2022, had a renowned journalist, currently a correspondent at News 18 India, Ms Ritika Singh as a jury member.
Learning opportunities: Spandan often features workshops, seminars, and talks by industry experts, which can provide students with valuable insights and knowledge about the media industry. For example, Mudrit featured a workshop on storytelling by Mr Vijay Kakwani, an award-winning storytelling coach. Similarly, Obscura featured a workshop on fashion photography by Mr Rishabh Dahiya, a photographer and filmmaker with 7 years of experience.
In conclusion, Spandan provides many benefits for students’ careers. It is the perfect blend of fun, creativity, and enjoyment. It is an exciting and fun way for students to express themselves creatively, build networks and friendships, and make memories which would last for a lifetime. Taking part in Spandan can help students develop their talents, build their professional network and open doors to potential job or internship opportunities. It is a great way for students to gain valuable experience and make meaningful connections that can help them launch their careers in the media and communication industry.
